Android 5.0 Lollipop New Features: Upgrades and Changes - Sweet Treats, Indeed

The new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS appears to be living up to its moniker as it incorporates several sweet treats for users in the form of new features.

There are many new features in the OS, which is being billed as the "biggest change" to the Android platform. It starts with notifications that pop up even when the phone is locked. This means that users get a notification when a text message or e-mail arrives. They can then tap on the screen twice and proceed to unlock the phone. After which they are taken directly to the app from which the notification was received, thereby reducing the time taken to access the app.

In addition, the notification system in the Android Lollipop can be programmed using the "priority" mode. Using it, people can for instance choose to get notifications about e-mails while ignoring less important text messages. Users can even program the priority mode to last for a specific period of time.

The guest mode in Android Lollipop is also being touted as an efficient way for parents to give children limited access to the phone while controlling what apps they use and data they see.

Double tapping on the screen and using a prompt of "OK Google" to wake up the device from sleep mode are other features which have been given high marks by reviewers.

PC Mag notes that the flashlight built into the Android 5.0 Lollipop is another neat feature which can be accessed via the notification panel. Google Search is also on every screen and can be opened by tapping on the search bar.

Finally the new OS from Android makes it easier for data to be transferred from an old device to a new one with its "tap and go" feature. This allows users to transfer data seamlessly once the old device has been paired with the new one via NFC.
