"American Horror Story" ("AHS") finally revealed the highly anticipated secret theme for season 6 during the premiere of the series last Wednesday, Sept. 14. This bizarre new season seems to have more surprises ahead, showrunner Ryan Murphy teased.

Although FX network's "American Horror Story" is an anthology horror TV series showing varying themes every season, each has an underlying connection with other seasons. Murphy shared this information in an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in 2014.

In "AHS: Roanoke," the creators are starting to connect the show to "Murder House" and "Freak Show."

"Roanoke" featured a familiar monster, one which viewers have seen terrorizing Eric Stonestreet in the first season of the show "Murder House." Five seasons after, Pig Man makes another appearance on the show.

Murphy told EW that "Roanoke" will also show a connection to "Freak Show." This season, the Mott family history will be explored. Viewers might remember Dandy Mott, who was portrayed by Finn Wittrock in season 4 "Freak Show." Dandy was a disturbed young man who murdered several people in season 4. Perhaps the Motts have a long history of disturbed and deranged relatives.

"We explain how the Motts began which is funny," Murphy teased.

So far, "Roanoke" is known to have connection with these two seasons. However, Murphy revealed that more blasts from the past have yet to be revealed. The creators will be featuring more "AHS" alums in the episodes to come.

"Many, many, many that you have not seen in years that you have wanted to see," the showrunner said.

In an interview with EW, Murphy shared what it took to keep this season a secret. Moreover, the showrunner explained why the current season was filmed in documentary form. "I was just sort of bored, and I wanted to reinvent the form," said Murphy. "I wanted to do something smaller and intimate," he added.

"AHS: Roanoke" airs every Wednesday at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
