'American Crime Story' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Plot to focus on Hurricane Katrina; season 1 cast members to return for new roles?

After reintroducing the Trial of the Century featuring O.J. Simpson to the younger generation, FX's hit anthology drama "American Crime Story" returns for a second season focusing on yet another miscarriage of justice. Hurricane Katrina will be the next subject of Ryan Murphy's acclaimed program, and he recently shared details on the upcoming season.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy stressed that they initially wanted the series to touch on crime stories with social relevance instead of exploring a "trial-of-the-week or murder-of-the-month." The writers and creators chose Hurricane Katrina as the next subject for the show and they have been researching about it "quite heavily for a year" before writing anything. Season 2 will have around 13 to 15 episodes and each episode will have a theme, similar to the first season. "You follow a cast of characters from before the storm hits to its aftermath, and we're spending a lot of time, energy and resources on it," he added.
Season 1 stars Sarah Paulson and John Travolta previously expressed their interest in returning for a different role. According to Murphy, some of the stars from the first season will return, but fans should not expect to see the whole lineup like his other program "American Horror Story." "You'll see some people," he hinted, "not all of them, but we haven't figured that out yet because we're right in the middle of the writing process." The series is currently in its first stages of production and Murphy made it clear that he does not want to offer anything to anyone this early. "I want them to know what they're signing up for," the producer/creator continued.
On another note, actor Sterling K. Brown recently earned his first Emmy nomination for his portrayal of prosecutor Christopher Darden in season 1. "American Crime Story" recently earned 22 nominations, one of which is for Brown in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie category. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Brown mentioned that the show opened up a lot of opportunities for him. "I could try and play coy or whatnot, but it's really a level of recognition that I've been unaccustomed to," he said.
FX has yet to announce an official premiere date for "American Crime Story" season 2.
