Much to the delight of fans, "American Crime" season 3 will return with a familiar face: Regina King. She has been the first cast member confirmed so far for the next installment of John Ridley's widely praised crime anthology series.

King won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in her role as Aliyah Shadeed in the show's first season. In the second season, she took on the role of Terri LaCroix. Now, she is up for another role in the upcoming season, although details about her character are yet to be revealed. Fans can be assured though that it will be another challenging one, as with the last two seasons.

Along with her return, it is very likely that Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton will be joining her as well, but this has not been confirmed officially.

Ridley, the show's creator, told Deadline in a statement: "We could not be more excited to welcome Regina back for a third season of 'American Crime.' She is among the talent who have quickly become intimately associated with the program."

He mentioned that King's role will be a "total transformation" bound to be another of those complex characters as in the past seasons. Ridley teased that the story for the next season will be based on real-life scenarios touching on such issues as labor, economic divides, as well as individual rights. He also revealed the setting to be North Carolina.

This sparked reports saying the plot next season may also deal with anti-LGBT law as the state has been beset with contention on this new legislation. Variety has even reported that a lot of movie and television productions as well as musicians have taken their work somewhere outside the state.

So while the scenes are set in NC, filming will take place in Los Angeles, California, pulling out of Austin, Texas. This came after the show was awarded a tax credit by the state of California.

The first two seasons of "American Crime" have been well-received, the first one earning nine other nominations, besides King's, and the second one believed to also be in the running for recognitions and awards this year.
