'Alien: Covenant' release date, latest news: Ridley Scott's horror film to get its own VR experience

The upcoming horror film "Alien: Covenant" will be launched with a virtual reality (VR) companion title.
According to Variety, the "Alien: Covenant" VR experience will be directed by David Karlak, with Ridley Scott as its executive producer. The paid VR title will be created through the cooperation of Scott's RSA Films, the Fox Innovation Lab, and MPC VR, a Technicolor Company.
In a press released reported by Polygon, Fox detailed what to expect from the upcoming "Alien" VR experience.
"The VR Experience for Alien: Covenant is a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe," Fox said, describing the upcoming VR title. "Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death."
The "Alien: Covenant" VR experience will be the second commercial VR title created by the Fox Innovation for Twentieth Century Fox. It previously released a VR experience based on the film "The Martian." The VR title is currently available for the PlayStation VR, the Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive.
In "The Martian" VR experience, players are introduced to a number of moments from the film. Most scenes only allow players to look around in a 360-degree virtual reality environment while a few scenarios require them to come up with solutions to some simple problems or puzzles.
Considering that a number of VR creations developed by MPC VR have been geared toward promoting a product, it remains unknown if the upcoming "Alien" VR paid title will be more game-like or if it will turn out to be just another VR tourist attraction.
The upcoming "Alien: Covenant" paid VR experience has no official release date yet, but considering that the film itself is scheduled to hit theaters this coming May 19, the paid VR title might be made available at around the same time.
