'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Coulson steps down; Who becomes the team's new director?

The third season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." already came to a close, and now fans are left to speculate on how season 4 will play out, particularly after the team lost one of its own.
Season 3 wrapped up with a six-month time jump, as Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) was already a rogue Inhuman who goes by the name "Quake." The episode also revealed that Coulson has stepped down from being the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fans are now wondering who would replace him as the team's new lead. Further details regarding the show's new season remain under wraps, but TV Line recently conducted a poll to see who viewers think should be the new director. As of this writing, Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders) retains the top spot with 37.97 percent of votes. It remains to be seen if the show will have a familiar face as Coulson's replacement or if they will cast a new character.
Once season 4 kicks off this Fall, there is a possibility that the Inhumans will deal with new and more powerful enemies. As noted by executive producer Jed Whedon, there are other ways to get superhuman boost aside from Terrigen mist. "Yeah, we've talked about what are the differences between people with powers and people without powers and I think our show started as not all heroes are super because we were about the little guy who doesn't have powers," Whedon explained. "Now, some of our people do have powers and some of them don't. Next year, with the advances in technology, we might be asking the question of, 'If you can have this, do you want it?' And a little bit of be careful what you wish for. That's about as specific as we can get."
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 returns this Fall on a yet-to-be-announced premiere date. The show is set to air every Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
