Comedic actor Jim Carrey recently partook in a social media discussion regarding vaccines following a law passed in California that mandates most schoolchildren receive vaccines.

Carrey criticized California Gov. Jerry Brown this week on Twitter as a "corporate fascist" who "must be stopped" after Brown signed a bill this week that does away with the state's personal and religious exemptions for children receiving vaccines.

The new legislation mandates that most schoolchildren in the state receive vaccinations in order to attend school.

"California Gov says yes to poisoning more children with mercury and aluminum in manditory vaccines. This corporate fascist must be stopped," Carrey tweeted on Tuesday.

After receiving numerous responses online, Carrey sought to clarify his statement by suggesting he is not anti-vaccination, but rather against some of the ingredients used to make vaccinations.

"They say mercury in fish is dangerous but forcing all of our children to be injected with mercury in thimerosol is no risk. Make sense?" Carrey argued.

After signing the controversial piece of legislation earlier this week, Gov. Brown said in a statement: "The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases."

"While it's true that no medical intervention is without risk, the evidence shows that immunization powerfully benefits and protects the community," Brown added.

Those who opposed the measure started a social media campaign with the hashtag "#HearUs" in the days leading up to the signed bill.
