Jodi Arias Retrial Latest News: Jury Selection Almost Over

Jodi Arias listens as the jury hands out its verdict during her 2013 trial.

Jury selection is almost over for the retrial of Jodi Arias following the declaration of a mistrial in 2013 during the sentencing phase of her case after she was convicted of killing her boyfriend Travis Alexander.

The mistrial was declared because some jurors had voted for the imposition of a life sentence while the others wanted the death penalty for her.

Since the mistrial last year, focus has shifted to this year's retrial this year. In the selection phase over 400 people have been considered to serve on the jury. The process is expected to be finished this week. After which, the opening statements in the retrial are expected to be delivered next week.

This time around, the judge has ruled that no video of the trial can be shown while it is underway. Those who are curious about the happenings in the trial will have to resort to checking social media sites like Twitter to get the latest news.

Jen Wood is an expert on the trial and she plans to tweet the happenings in the courtroom as it happens. Speaking to CB5, Wood explains how "people will follow different reporters' accounts of the trial to get a really good picture of everything."

"One reporter might pick up on one thing, while another might pick on something else," she says.

It is expected that the trial will capture the public's interest as many will want to know whether Arias will be handed a death sentence or sent to prison for life.

The Huffington Post has more about the initial trial and how Arias provided lurid details about her sex life with Alexander when she testified for 18 days in court. During that trial, Arias tried to show that she was forced to succumb to Alexander's desires.

On the other hand, the prosecution depicted as having turned into a stalker after he rejected her. The retrial,as mentioned by the Huffington Post, will not focus on whether Arias is guilty or not, but on her sentencing.
