The new soap opera, which is currently in production, has been described by the company as a "22-episode family-focused dramatic series."

"There's a clearly an appetite for original content in the streaming video world and we decided it was a hunger we needed to feed," said Greg Gudorf, CEO of PureFlix.com, according to a press release.

"Our efforts paid off; Our growing subscriber base gravitates toward original series that are new, fresh and can only be seen on our platform," he added.

The launch of the new soap opera will be followed by a 12-episode comedic series titled "Malibu Dan," starring David A.R. White. The comedy is about one of the hosts of a morning talk show in Malibu, California, who finds it difficult to find a balance between his work and home life.

Late last month, PureFlix.com launched the sitcom "Hitting the Breaks," which also stars David A.R. White, along with Andrea Logan White, Gianna Simone, Kevin Downes and others. The 10-episode sitcom is about a former race car driver who relocates his family to Colorado to run a country inn in a town full of colorful characters. Award-winning actor Burt Reynolds ends each episode with a prayer. Additionally, the show also features guest appearances by Tim Tebow, Rob Schneider and Carrot Top.

Since mid-2015, Pureflix.com has launched seven original series, including "Pure Flix Comedy All-Stars", "After The Encounter" and "Pure Talk", a talk show covering Christian issues and trends.

Another popular original series launched by the company was "The Encounter," starring Bruce Marchiano as Jesus. PureFlix.com subscribers have lauded the series for its depiction of Jesus helping people in everyday situations.

"The popularity and success of 'The Encounter' series was the driving force for us to expand our original content lineup. It gave us the confident to keep on developing new original series and programs," Gudorf said.

Like Netflix and Hulu, PureFlix.com offers the first month for free and gives its viewers the option to choose from thousands of titles without paying a fee.
