Pakistani Christian says Kathy Griffin's photo with fake head of Trump insulted Christians beheaded for faith

A Pakistani Christian has denounced Kathy Griffin's controversial photo shoot involving a fake severed head of U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming the stunt insulted Middle-East Christians who were beheaded for their faith.

Griffin has drawn criticism for posing for photographs while holding up a replica of a severed, bloodied head resembling Trump.

The comedian has since lost some sponsorships and jobs, including a deal to appear on CNN's annual New Year's Eve broadcast with journalist Anderson Cooper, according to Reuters.

In a video posted on YouTube on May 31, Hadassah Shabnam Lal, a fourth-generation Christian from Pakistan, claimed that she was not able to sleep due to the controversy. She admitted that she was an admirer of Trump and said that she felt "very, very insulted" at what Griffin did.

"Now when you depicted that head of President Trump being held up, beheaded, you insulted me," Lal said, as reported by Church Militant. "Not only did you insult me, but you insulted every person, every Christian who has ever been beheaded for their faith! Shame on you! Shame on you, Kathy Griffin!" she added.

Lal noted that children as young as 12 have been beheaded and that 90,000 Christians have been martyred across the globe. She also pointed out that 12 Christian men have been executed just last year for refusing to renounce their faith.

She proceeded to read a poem "in honor of my brothers who are Christians that were martyred and beheaded." After reciting the poem, she then addressed Griffin directly, saying, "No apology is going to make up for what you did."

Griffin had issued an apology in a video posted on Twitter late Tuesday, but on Friday, she held a press conference, saying she will continue making jokes about the president.

"I'm not laying down for this guy," she said, referring to Trump. "I'm going to keep making jokes about this guy," she added.

She said that the photo was intended to mock Trump's comments during the presidential campaign, when he said that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her - wherever" when she moderated a presidential debate in 2015.

The comedian claimed that she had been contacted by the Secret Service, and she accused the Trump family of "trying to ruin" her rights.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Secret Service, which is responsible for presidential security, has launched an inquiry into the photo of Griffin posing with the fake severed head of the president.
