'This Is Us' starts answering questions about Jack's death tonight

When "This Is Us" scored its multiseason renewal, creator Dan Fogelman teased about peppering details regarding the glaring mystery about Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) death. And while fans will not be hit with the complete picture right away, the hit show will be dropping clues on what exactly happened starting with tonight's episode.

After an installment solely set in the past last week, the family drama is back to its usual narrative flow with the clever use of time lapse. The upcoming outing titled "Three Sentences" will feature the big three back in their respective lives ad dealing with their respective issues. Kate (Chriss Metz) meets a new guy named Duke (Adam Bartley), who is tipped to create some kind of domino effect on her rather perfect state of relationship with her fiancé, Toby (Chris Sullivan). Kevin (Justin Hartley), meanwhile, contemplates on being part of the unconventional love triangle with Olivia (Janet Montgomery) and Sloane (Milana Vayntrub). Completing the trio is Randall (Sterling K. Brown) who will deal with the now chemo-free William (Ron Cephas Jones).

Back in time, fans will reunite with the younger Pearson family as the three kids celebrate their 10th birthday. But as everything in raising triplets, Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) struggle with planning their parties as all of them want wildly different things. Kevin wants a "Princess Bride"-themed celebration, Kate wants a Madonna-inspired one and Randall asks for a magician-themed birthday bash. And obviously, while the prejudice will bring out some laughs from the viewers, Fogelman reveals that it is part of showcasing the struggle of raising three distinct children.

"We're doing this storyline that came up in our writers' room, because we were like, 'God, what must it be like when they have to throw birthday parties for three kids who are sharing the same birthday and whose interests are starting to diverge?'" the writer told Entertainment Weekly. "It's Jack and Rebecca dealing with a very simple storyline, where our kids are getting older and they're suddenly not the little easily problem-solved kids that they were at seven," he added.

Somehow, in its jam-packed storyline, the forthcoming outing of "This Is Us" also sneaks in an important nugget of information regarding what exactly happened with Jack's death. And Fogelman warns everybody that this one will be pivotal in solving the show's narrative riddle.

"There's a piece of information that comes out in this episode about his death," he hinted. "People have a lot of questions. Not all of them are going to be answered for quite some time, but in terms of starting to put together the peripheral puzzle pieces, one of them takes shape this week."
