'Silent Hills' Canceled News: Fans Seek to Save Popular Horror Game after Cancellation Announcement
Fans of the popular horror game "Silent Hills" expressed shock at the recent announcement of the game's cancellation and have started a petition at Change.org asking game designer Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro to continue the development of the game.
The discontinuation of the survival-horror game was first hinted in its playable teaser from the PlayStation Store. Japanese game maker Konami later confirmed officially that "Silents Hills" is dead, but assured gamers that it is still "committed" to develop new games like "Silent Hills."
A petition is now asking Kojima, the brains behind Konami's "Metal Gear Solid," and Del Toro to continue working on the game, whose protagonist would have the likeness and the voice of actor Norman Reedus of the hit TV series "The Walking Dead."
The petition, titled, "Petitioning Kojima and Del Toro Continue working on Silent Hills," was started by a certain Yauheni Zinkevich from Germany.
Zinkevich even offered to start a crowdfunding campaign if the issue behind the discontinuation of the game's development is financial in nature.
As of this weekend, the petition has been signed by 56,603 supporters.
The original goal was for 15,000 signatures. This was later increased to 25,000. The target was again raised for the second time to 75,000.
Over 18,000 more signatures are needed to reach the new goal.
The company did not state a specific reason for the discontinuation of the popular horror game.
"Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic 'Silent Hills' project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued," Konami said in a statement.
"In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements," the game maker said.
