'Shadowhunters' season 2 episode 4 spoilers: Powerful demon attacks the Institute as Valentine tries to get Jace back

Jace (Dominic Sherwood) might have made it in time to save Alec (Matthew Daddario), but he did so at the risk of being apprehended by the Institute. Also, in the next episode of "Shadowhunters," Valentine's (Alan van Sprang) son will be doing time in the City of Bones while Clary (Katherine McNamara) and the rest of the Institute deal with an unexpected assault from a powerful demon.

Titled "Day of Wrath," the episode finds Clary struggling to adapt to the new Shadowhunter order while worrying about Jace's unknown fate in the City of Bones. There is also the unspoken suspicion the people at the Institute regard her with because she is Valentine's daughter. So when a mission to apprehend a powerful demon comes up, Clary willingly accompanies Alec and Izzy (Emeraude Toubia) to get away from all the family drama.

But what is supposed to have been just a routine mission quickly escalates into something bigger when the demon infiltrates the Institute and puts the Shadowhunters' sanctuary on high alert. What does this demon want and what kind of havoc will it unleash on the Institute? How will this attack change the way things are for the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders? Will it bring them together against a common enemy, or will it tear their bonds apart completely?

In the trailer for the next episode, Valentine is also shown attempting to persuade his son Jace to come with him by giving him two options: rot in jail or fight alongside his father. Jace looks determined to live out his punishment, but will he still be able to hold on to his principles when Valentine presents him with a deal he cannot resist?

It is also teased that the demon's infiltration of the institute will lead to the death of one Shadowhunter, and from the looks of it, Alec will be deeply involved in the case. Which Shadowhunter will lose his or her life, and does Alec have anything to do with the upcoming death?

Meanwhile, Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) will present a proposition for Clary while Simon (Alberto Rosende) and Raphael (David Castro) continue their search for Camille (Kaitlyn Leeb).
