'Sense8' season 2 updates, spoilers: Premiere delayed as cast shake-up and behind-the-scenes drama unfold mid-production?
"Sense8" season 2's premiere might be pushed farther back due to some behind-the-scenes drama and cast shakeups that took place mid-production. For now, filming has continued, but Netflix has yet to announce when the show's second season would start airing.
One of the issues that purportedly marred the production of "Sense8" season 2 is writer-creator Lilly Wachowski's decision to leave after she came out as a transgender woman back in March. Nevertheless, writer and co-creator J. Michael Straczynski made it clear that the 48-year-old filmmaker left the show to "focus on her transition."
Straczynski also said that Lilly left the reins to her twin sister, Lana Wachowski even before the writing period for season 2 began. He said rumors claiming Lilly left mid-production of the second season were "flatly untrue."
Another alleged hitch to the production of "Sense8" season 2 had to do with Aml Ameen's sudden exit from the series in the middle of production. According to the rumor mill, his supposed rift with some of his co-stars triggered Ameen's departure from the show, something Jamie Clayton, who plays Nomi, was quick to douse. "The Book of Dallas'" Toby Onwumere will replace Ameen.
However, Tuppence Middleton, who plays Riley Blue, did hint that Ameen left the show due to some creative differences, all the while encouraging fans not to dwell on the recasting but to focus on the positive side of things.
"I think the most important thing is that Capheus' storyline lives. He's a great character, and it would be a real shame to have that go away ... There's a lot stranger things we're doing than recasting an actor," she said.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Buzzfeed, some cast members shared some "Sense8" season 2 spoilers. Max Riemelt, who plays Wolfgang, said the eight Sensates would defeat Whispers (Terrence Mann). Moreover, they would meet a teacher who would help them learn more about their powers. Fans should also look forward to the love triangle brewing between Wolfgang, Kala (Tina Desai) and Rajan (Purab Kohli).
Because of the sudden changes in casting and production, "Sense8" season 2 might have a Spring 2017 premiere, with a Christmas special airing this year.
