'Power Rangers' news, spoilers: Rita Repulsa will use Trini to get to the Power Rangers, Becky G says
In the upcoming "Power Rangers" film, an adaptation of the popular live action TV series from the '90s, evil villain Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) will be trying to defeat the Power Rangers by using Trini a.k.a Yellow Ranger (Becky G).
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Becky G, the 19-year-old singer/actress who has previously appeared in the Fox musical drama "Empire," talked about her character, working with Banks, and the film's progress.
In the interview, Becky G also spoke about a photo from the "Power Rangers" set in which Rita Repulsa is holding Trini up against a wall. According to the actress, Rita is going after Trini because she perceives the Yellow Ranger as the "weakest" in the group.
"Rita tries to make Trini feel like she's the weakest link of the Power Rangers, and she feels it's easiest to go for her," she told EW. "Rita's the type to play a lot of mind games, and Trini's [thinking], 'Can I really overpower Rita Repulsa or can I not?'"
Becky G, the youngest member of the cast, will be joined by fellow Power Rangers Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), and Ludi Lin (Black Ranger) in the film. The main cast also includes Banks as the film's main villain and Bryan Cranston as Zordon, the Power Rangers' mentor.
Earlier this month, Cranston spoke about how "Power Rangers" will differ from the cartoonish '90s series, comparing it to the "Dark Knight" trilogy.
"This is as different a reimagining as the Batman television series as it became the Batman movie series," he told The Huffington Post. "You can't compare those two, and nor can you compare this movie version of the Power Rangers to that television series. It's unrecognizable for the most part."
"Power Rangers" will hit theaters March 24, 2017.
