'Narcos' season 3 release date, story line news: Third season to come out August or September 2017
Hit Netflix original series "Narcos" is up for renewal on its third season. Alongside another hit original series, "Stranger Things," the show was recognized by Netflix as one of the reasons for the company's record revenues. This helped to put more trust in renewing "Narcos" for its third and fourth installment.
As reported by Inquisitr, "Narcos" was given an early renewal and season 3 will likely premiere in August or September 2017. Last week, it was confirmed that filming for the third installment started already. One of the first images to be released shows Javier Pena without his partner Steve Murphy in what seems to be a press conference announcing the death of Escobar.
A teaser for the show already hinted that season 3 will focus on the Cali Cartel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Eric Newman said that there's a reason why they call the show "Narcos" and not "Pablo Escobar." "It's very much about the trade. There are other drug dealers and there are alliances formed against Pablo [in season two], so there are a multitude of stories we could tackle," he said.
Newman also said in the interview that they are not merely replacing Escobar but they are going deeper into the system.
"We don't want to replace Pablo Escobar. We are going to look deeper into the systemic effects within Colombia of cocaine and corruption. Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system. They had bought their way in and they enjoyed a different kind of protection than Pablo did," he said.
With months to wait before the third season's premiere, fans have ample time to formulate theories and speculations of their own.
