'Narcos' season 2 spoilers: Show to continue sans Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar
It is a common knowledge by now that Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar will meet his demise in "Narcos" season 2, but it appears that the Netflix hit is not going anywhere even after the lead character's death.
"This is definitely the last season for me," Moura told The Hollywood Reporter. "This is the season where we're going to start see the fall of this guy. We're going to see Pablo Escobar very vulnerable," he continued.
Moura's remark hinted that "Narcos" will go beyond season 2. After all, as what executive producer Jose Padilha stated in the same interview, "The show is not about Pablo."
"Pablo Escobar happens to be the man who created the mass business of cocaine trade. He's, for lack of a better word, the founding father of this business but the show is about cocaine. It's about drug dealers that deal cocaine," the EP said.
With that said, it shows that the Escobar storyline simply jumpstarted the whole show, whose real focus is the drug dealing. It just so happens that Escobar was the one who started it all.
This is reiterated by executive producer Eric Newman, who said that the show is titled "Narcos" simply because it is "very much about the trade" and not Escobar alone.
Padilha said that while the show is "still going to be the show it is" after "Narcos" season 2, the focus will simply shift from the Colombian drug kingpin to another drug dealer.
Newman said that there are still a lot of stories to tell on that aspect and there are also storylines that could involve the groups that formed to take down Escobar.
However, Padilha emphasized that it will take a "broad perspective" in telling stories about other drug lords and dealers. Either way, it seems to hint that Escobar's death won't mark the show's end.
"Narcos" season 2 will be focused on Escobar and will see him reach his breaking point. The new season will premiere Friday, Sept. 2 on Netflix.
