'Mafia 3' release date on PS4, Xbox One, PC news 2016: Cassandra the Voodoo Queen joins Lincoln Clay's family

Publisher 2K Games has named its latest "Mafia 3" character—Cassandra, better known as the Voodoo Queen, the leader of the Haitian Syndicate set to take vengeance against the mafia.

As per the "Mafia 3" clip, Cassandra appears to be ruthless and certainly not the type one would want to trifle with. It won't end well for anyone who gets in her way.

The "Mafia 3" teaser did not get into detail about what score Cassandra is very intent on settling with the mafia. Thankfully, a press release picked up by PlayStation Lifestyle gave a bit of detail.

It turns out that the Voodoo Queen is working to dismantle the human trafficking business in New Bordeaux. It is unknown if Cassandra's decision to make it her mission in life in "Mafia 3" to end this horrendous crime has to do with an experience in her life.

In order for her to succeed, it was revealed in the teaser that she will need a family in order to do it. The end of the clip ended with the remark: "Family is not the one you're born with. It's who you die for."

Of course, this statement will be the underlying theme in "Mafia 3." It also hints Cassandra's story will involve family and the ever-evolving definition of the word.

Cassandra is one of the three lieutenants that will accompany protagonist Lincoln Clay in his ultimate bid to take down the Italian mafia, who destroyed every last inch of his surrogate family – the black mob.

"Mafia 3" is one of the highly-anticipated titles for this year. It is set in New Bordeaux, which is the game's version of New Orleans. Part of the description of the game reads:

Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it's possible to make it to the top of the city's underworld.

"Mafia 3" will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and personal computer (PC) on Oct. 7. It is now available for pre-order on the said platforms.
