'Lucifer' season 2 episode 12 spoilers: Mysterious masked murderer to put Chloe's life in danger in 'Love Handles'

With only one episode left before "Lucifer" goes on its midseason break, things are really starting to heat up for an explosive midseason finale. Will Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) finally succeed in convincing her son Lucifer to abandon his humanity and go back home to the Silver City? Or is there a threat yet unforeseen that ultimately blows her plans out of the water?

In episode 12 titled "Love Handles," Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) struggle to make heads and tails of their relationship after that kiss they shared at the end of the previous episode. They will try to do all these while trying to get to the bottom of a new case involving the mysterious masked killer, who was also briefly teased in episode 11, in a scene that effectively kicked off a three-episode procedural arc.

It turns out that the package that was initially thought to have contained drugs, which led this week's big bad, Burt (Joe Williamson), to kill two of Lucifer's past flings, actually holds vials of a highly poisonous chemical that can kill a person with the slightest of contacts. Now that a mysterious man in a hat and a trench coat is in possession of it, it looks like a potentially serious mass murder is about to take place in Los Angeles.

And by the looks of it, not only will the mystery man target college students, but Chloe's life will also be put at risk, as teased in the trailer for "Lucifer's" 2017 return, where Chloe is shown with a nosebleed that doesn't seem to stop. How much in danger will Chloe's life be and what lengths will Lucifer be willing to take in order to save her, especially now that they seem to be taking their relationship on a more intimate level?

On a much lighter, albeit stranger note, Charlotte pays Linda (Rachael Harris) a visit to ask the therapist to the Celestials some advice on a rather touchy subject, which could lead to some awkward, perhaps subtly humorous moments as Linda tries to deal with the Celestial matriarch's tendency to over-share.
