Love and hate collide as the Murtaugh couple find themselves on opposite sides of the law in the next episode of "Lethal Weapon." But this is just scratching the surface of what's about to go down next week in FOX's breakout hit buddy cop series.

Titled "Brotherly Love," episode 12 will bring partners Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) to the impound lot to investigate a car theft involving huge amounts of cocaine. The case quickly ties them up to a much bigger issue concerning a notorious car theft ring and a suspect who will be represented in court by none other than Murtaugh's wife, Trish (Keesha Sharp).

How will Riggs handle being caught in the middle of this warring couple? Whose side will he ultimately take? What steps, if any at all, will he take to help snuff out the fiery conflict between the two most important persons in his life right now? Will the frightening chest pain that Murtaugh is said to experience eventually trigger the couple's reconciliation?

In the trailer for the next episode, things seem to go south really fast in a scene where Murtaugh insists that his suspect is guilty, while Trish quips that he's innocent. Riggs tries to speak his mind in favor of Murtaugh's conviction, but one sharp glance from Trish and he looks as if he will wilt in submission. Whose side will eventually win the case and how will this conflict with Trish affect Riggs and Murtaugh's partnership?

The upcoming episode was previously teased by series creator Matthew Miller in an interview with Screener TV. Miller described Trish's character as a very strong woman whose "sort of the glue that keeps it all together between the guys."

But when Riggs and Murtaugh arrest a former client of Trish, all bets may be off as the brilliant defense attorney puts her best foot forward. But the upcoming complication will not be all about doom and gloom.

"It's a really fun episode that puts the dynamic together of Trish vs. the guys," Miller told Screener TV.

"Lethal Weapon" season 1 episode 12 airs on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. EST on FOX
