'Green Lantern Corps' release date, news: screenwriters David Goyer and Justin Rhodes tapped to pen script
Warner Bros. Pictures has found the people they were looking for to write the script for the upcoming "Green Lantern Corps" film.
Deadline has reported that the studio has hired David Goyer and Justin Rhodes to work on the screenplay for the film. DC Films heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will act as executive producers.
Goyer has worked on several DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films before. He wrote the script for "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and before that, he also worked on Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy. Rhodes is currently co-writing the script of the "Fantastic Voyage" remake with Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron.
According to Deadline, "Green Lantern Corps" would focus on Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Those two are the most popular Green Lantern characters in the comic books. The publication has also described the film as "Lethal Weapon in space." Well, that's actually an accurate description because the Green Lantern Corps are basically an intergalactic police force. Perhaps Jordan and Stewart can play good cop, bad cop while interrogating someone.
Now that the project has finally taken a step forward, a lot of fans are starting to wonder if Ryan Reynolds will return to play Hal Jordan. Since the 2011 "Green Lantern" film was undoubtedly a flop, and Reynolds has moved on to star in "Deadpool," a lot of people believe he may not return to portray the role.
Meanwhile, Sterling K. Brown has already thrown his name into the hat for the role of Stewart. "Dear powers that be, if you are looking for someone to play John Stewart, I humbly submit my name. Namaste," he tweeted. The studio hasn't made up their mind yet on who to cast, so perhaps Brown may get the role.
"Green Lantern Corps" is scheduled to premiere on July 24, 2020.
