"Destiny 2" developer Bungie will be at next month's PlayStation Experience 2016, where it is expected to drop the highly anticipated video game sequel.

Gamers have been waiting for the next installment in the online-only first-person shooter video game series for the last couple of years. Their long wait may finally come to an end in December.

Bungie hinted at the possibility of an imminent "Destiny 2" launch in its latest blog post, where the studio announced that it is on its way to the much-awaited annual event. The blog post concluded with a major tease about a "mystery" and a "finish line," which many have taken to mean that "Destiny 2" is about to drop — either at PlayStation Experience or at The Game Awards.

"Next week, Thanksgiving will be visited upon our shores," Bungie said in the post. "There will still be blog fodder for your reading eyes. Intelligence reports it will be random and light," it continued.

"The week after, we'll be packing our bags for Anaheim, CA," it added. "The particulars of our mission are still a mystery. We'll cross that finish line soon," Bungie said.

This year's PlayStation Experience will take place in Anaheim, California, on Dec. 3 and 4. The Game Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Dec. 1.

Visitors at the PlayStation Experience 2016 will be able to attend developer panels, test new gaming devices such as the PS4 Pro and the PlayStation VR, purchase merchandise, and get sneak peeks at upcoming titles.

VG 24/7 said that "Destiny 2" could be launched at The Game Awards, which has been the venue for numerous video game debuts. A "Destiny 2" demo or event could then be held at PlayStation Experience days later.

However, the outlet warned that instead of a "Destiny 2" early access event, PlayStation Experience could serve as a venue for Bungie's "Sparrow Racing League" instead.

"Destiny 2" will be out sometime next year and is rumored to be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
