"Battleborn" did not live up to the expectations of developer Gearbox Software and Take-Two Interactive, but CEO Strauss Zelnick will stand by the game.

Released in May, "Battleborn" launched into the market with a strong opening but quickly flopped in the following weeks. In a recent earnings call for Take-Two, Zelnick addressed this and revealed the company's plans for the game.

"While the game launched to solid reviews, its performance in the market has been below our expectations. We think there remains an opportunity to grow the audience for this unique experience over time and 2K will continue to drive engagement and recurrent consumer spending on the title through add-on content and virtual currency," the CEO said.

This hints that despite the dud, "Battleborn" will still get support from Take-Two. Players might even get downloadable content (DLC) and other goodies in the future.

"We're still delivering new content to Battleborn. Audiences love Battleborn. We still have virtual currency coming for Battleborn. We're not counting it out for a minute. We're just telling you where we're at now," he continued.

Zelnick also recognized the fact that "not everything always turns out the way one might like" and that the company's "strength and diversity" will help them move on from this shortfall.

Digital Spy notes that with the player base remaining as how it is, Take-Two may simply have to make "Battleborn" free-to-play as this was usually the next step for titles that underperformed in the market.

However, it appears that the company has a new approach in reviving the game. As the time of writing, the current players on Steam are only 365 with a 30-day average of 1,037.3.

It is indeed a very low number and the abovementioned site says that it will be impossible to make money from that number of audience through add-on content and virtual currency.
