'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers, cast rumors: Rihanna filming scenes as Marion Crane
Singer/songwriter Rihanna has begun filming for her iconic role in the upcoming "Bates Motel" season 5.
The Grammy winner was cast earlier this year to play Marion Crane in the horror series' fifth and final season. While Marion Crane's name may not ring any bells, the character is nonetheless popular. Most people probably know her as the woman Norman Bates killed in the shower in "Psycho" (1960), the famed Alfred Hitchcock film on which the A&E series is based.
Actress Janet Leigh portrayed Marion in "Psycho" and many others have taken on the role in the various iterations of the iconic film. While many fans were surprised by Rihanna's casting this summer, her on-set photos from the filming of "Bates Motel" season 5 offer an exciting glimpse of the "Work" singer as Marion.
"We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way," "Bates Motel" executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said in a statement in July. "We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate," they added.
In the photos shared by Just Jared from the "Bates Motel" season 5 set in Vancouver, Rihanna acts opposite Nestor Carbonell, who plays Sheriff Alex Romero. In the snaps, Rihanna sports cropped red hair and wears formal business attire consisting of a gray skirt and a gray jacket cinched with a thin belt.
Rihanna, who is also currently filming the upcoming all-female "Ocean's Eight" alongside co-stars Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, is expected to pull in more viewers to the A&E series. The singer's popularity is expected to create a lot of buzz for the show's upcoming season, which is reportedly attempting to go out with a bang.
"Bates Motel" season 5 will debut on A&E in March 2017.
