'Ant-Man 2' release date, cast news update: Michael Peña confirmed to return as fan-favorite Luis
Scott Lang's (Paul Rudd) story-spinning pal Luis will have more tales to complicate in "Ant-Man 2," which is officially titled "Ant-Man and the Wasp" as actor Michael Peña has been confirmed to return.
Peña's scene-stealing character, who is a former cellmate and friend of Scott, was received positively by moviegoers for the great comedic value he brought in to the first blockbuster film.
Luis, who takes pride in being able to steal not one but two smoothie machines, shined in almost all scenes he had in the Ant-Man standalone film.
But it was when Luis picked up Scott after being released from prison early in the film that he made an impression to fans. And when he started to explain the job they want Scott to do, he had cinemas roaring in laughter.
There's also a particularly hilarious scene where he rambled about the interest of the Avengers to Scott's abilities. Fans could expect more of those in "Ant-Man 2."
Luis also has a knack for improvising during missions. This is especially true when he and his fellow crew members Kurt (David Dastmalchian) and Dave (Tip Harris) helped Scott, Hank (Michael Douglas) and Hope (Evangeline Lilly) infiltrate Pym Technologies.
He suggested whistling as he acts as a security guard. He was strongly advised not to but did it anyway. Peña's return in "Ant-Man 2" is not a shock to fans due to the popularity of his character.
There's that and the fact that he inked a contract with Marvel Studios for three movies, which the actor revealed in an interview with Comic Book Resources (CBR) last month.
"I think they have the option to drop me if they want—which could happen! You never know," the actor quipped during the interview.
Talking about his inspiration for the personality of Luis, he told CBR about a friend he knew back in Chicago since he was 16 who he came to know through another friend.
"They introduced me to him, and he had such an interesting way at looking at life. I remember, I was like, 'Oh, what'd you do this weekend? He's like [in character], 'I went to jail, dahg...'" Peña recalled.
With Peña's return, fans expect Harris and Dastmalchian to follow for Scott's whole squad to be complete. "Ant-Man 2" is slated to hit the cinemas in June 2018.
