Ronda Rousey UFC 2016 news: Rousey makes weight, promptly leaves
Ronda Rousey finally appeared in front of the media. Well, sort of. Rousey was the first fighter on the scale during the official weigh-in for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 207, but after she hit the 135-pound mark, she left right away. She didn't even pose for the photographers. And so, the media blackout continues.
Fans find it odd that she's avoiding the media. Her opponent, UFC women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, has even noted that she found it weird that Rousey was ignoring her media responsibilities even though it's part of her job.
Now, before other fighters decide to do the same thing Rousey's doing right now, UFC head Dana White explained to the media that this was a "one-and-done" thing, so it probably wouldn't happen again.
"Listen, Ronda has given more than anybody. If you look at the amount of press that's been done by any fighter in the UFC in UFC history, Ronda smokes everybody by a long shot. And this is the way she wanted it," he stated (via MMA Fighting).
Although he admitted that the situation wasn't ideal, he said he's willing to do it for Rousey since she has done so much already for the company and women in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).
Meanwhile, some people are questioning Rousey's mindset after the beating she took in her last fight with Holly Holm. Is she ready for this fight? Physically, she looks in great shape. But she will have to be strong mentally as well.
Her ex-boyfriend, former MMA fighter Brendan Schaub, admitted that he was concerned about her mental health since she's barely seen in public since her last fight.
"What scares me about Ronda, she went MIA, she blamed it on the media," he stated on The Pony Hour podcast (transcribed by the New York Post). He also said that Rousey was saying that the fight might be one of her last ones, and whenever a fighter says that, things don't usually go too well. "When they say that, they get annihilated, and if I hear that, I always take the other guy," Schaub added.
Rousey is one of the best in the world, but she has to be mentally prepared on fight night if she wants to win back the women's bantamweight belt.
