Jeremy Lin injury news: hamstring injury is not severe; no timetable for Lin's return
When Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin went down with another hamstring injury in the third quarter of their 120–118 victory over Charlotte Hornets, fans feared that he must have aggravated the injury that kept him out for over a month. But Newsday has some good news to share with the Nets faithful.
The publication has reported that Lin's recent injury is not a recurrence of the left hamstring injury, and it's also not as severe. Lin did not travel with the team to Chicago for their game against the Bulls, and he was evaluated by the team doctors.
"The severity is not the same as the first one. It is a left hamstring strain, a different area to the first one. It's not the same injury. They're not linked," Nets general manager Sean Marks stated.
And now for some bad news. As expected, Lin is going to miss some time again and the Nets don't have a timetable for his return. "I don't think that's fair to Jeremy to say you're going to be out X amount, and then next thing you know, he's under that sort of pressure to return then. We all know how competitive he is and misses the game immensely," Marks explained.
The Nets need their starting point guard to play if they want to win more games, but they aren't going push him back too soon after an injury like this.
While Lin is clearly disappointed with the setback, Marks said that the guard was in good spirits. He also noted that this will give the role players a chance to step up and play better.
Isaiah Whitehead has replaced Lin in the starting lineup, and Coach Atkinson has also mentioned that Spencer Dinwiddie and Randy Foye would play the point as well. Sean Kilpatrick will also take on the role of playmaker.
