Saints QB Drew Brees Welcomes Baby Girl, Calls Her 'God's Greatest Gift'
NFL quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints thanked God on social media Wednesday after he and his wife, Brittany Dudchenko, welcomed a newborn girl into their family.
Brees missed his NFL practice Monday to welcome his new daughter into the world, uploading a photo to Twitter that showed him holding the new addition to his family, which already consists of three boys.
"Spent the early morning with our new baby girl! Brit and she are happy, healthy, and doing great! Gods [sic] greatest gift!" Brees tweeted.
Brees and Dudchenko, his college sweetheart, already share three children together, including sons Callen, Baylen and Bowen. The couple resides near New Orleans, Louisiana for the majority of the year as he practices with his NFL team, and spends his off-season with his family in San Diego, California.
Brees has not been afraid to speak openly about his Christian faith in the past. In 2011, Brees spoke on his decision to join the New Orleans Saints, saying at first he thought it was a terrible decision, but later learned that God had a plan for him and his football career.
"At the time, I felt like this is the worst thing that could ever happen to me at the worst time. […] potentially career-ending […] I began asking God, 'Why me?', 'Why now?'" Brees told Victory magazine in a 2011 interview.
"A year later, I thought, 'God that was probably the best thing that happened to be,' because otherwise I never would have had the opportunity to come here and be a part of this community and this rebuilding effort," Brees said, referencing the recovery of New Orleans following the devastating Hurricane Katrina of 2005.
