Jimmy Kimmel Pays Tribute To Robin Williams At Emmy Awards
ABC's late night television host Jimmy Kimmel paid a creative tribute to the recently deceased comedian Robin Williams at the 2014 Emmy Awards Monday night, wearing rainbow-colored suspenders, just like the ones Williams wore in the 1970's and 1980's.
Kimmel uploaded a photo to Instagram Monday night that showed him sitting next to his wife, Molly McNearney, while the two took the Los Angeles subway system to the awards show.
"On our way to the #Emmys UNDERGROUND," Kimmel wrote as the caption for his Instagram photo. "Blue line to #Emmys #Mork."
Kimmel was referencing the role Williams played as Mork, an alien from outer space, on the 1970's and 1980's sitcom "Mork & Mindy." On the show, Williams often wore rainbow suspenders that became one of his signature looks when he was first getting starting in the acting and comedy business.
Williams passed away August 11 at his home near San Francisco, California after allegedly committing suicide using a belt to hang himself.
The recently-passed actor will also be honored at Monday's Emmy Awards show by fellow comedian Billy Crystal. A friend of Crystal's previously told Hollywood Life that Crystal was "humbled" by the opportunity to pay tribute to his dear friend on Monday's telecast.
"Billy is prepared for this moment for his friend," a source close to Billy told Hollywood Life. "He is humbled to have been chosen and has gone through all emotions to be ready."
"Robin Williams will be honored on the show and we will all hear from people for the first time about his death during the telecast," Emmy Awards organizers told Hollywood Life. "It is going to be a very big tribute."
