Army Reports 'All Clear' After Soldier Shoots Herself On Fort Lee Base

Authorities have given an "all-clear" for the Fort Lee Army Base in Virginia, where an active shooter was reportedly spotted earlier this morning.

A Pentagon spokeswoman confirmed no one was wounded by the alleged shooter, but she could not confirm the shooter's status.

According to the Fort Lee Facebook page, the shooter in question was reportedly a female who turned a gun on herself on the Army base and wounded herself. The female has reportedly been taken to the nearby Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, but her status is unknown.

The U.S. Army said in a statement Monday that the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command will be investigating Monday's incident. "Fort Lee officials take this incident very seriously and are fully cooperating with the investigation," the statement said.

According to the Associated Press, notifications were sent out to Base personnel on Monday morning, telling them to enact "active shooter" protocols. Such an alert usually means there is an active shooter on the base, randomly killing people.

A statement from the base's media office confirms the female soldier entered the four-story Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters building at around 9 a.m., and reportedly turned a firearm on herself, firing one shot.

According to "Good Morning America," the building where the female shooter wounded herself is used to "design, develop, and integrate sustainment capabilities into warfighting requirements, foster innovation, and lead change for the future force."

When the lockdown ended 20 minutes after it was initiated, Fort Lee officials announced via its Facebook page that "the law enforcement event is over."
