Former American Idol contestant Colton Dixon believes sex was designed for marriage
A former American Idol contestant has recently shared his own experience about sex and marriage, and emphasized that sexual intimacy comes after marriage.
Colton Dixon, 24, who placed seventh during the 11th season of American Idol in 2012, revealed that he waited until after marriage before becoming sexually intimate.
Dixon, who married Annie Coggeshall, 27, on Jan. 8 in Tennessee, waited for more than three years because he believed sex was specifically made for marriage. While, he did emphasize that it was not easy for both of them, they felt that it was the best thing to do.
"I knew it would be more meaningful to wait," he said. "That was something I grew up thinking and feeling, and I believe the Bible backs it up as well."
Coggeshall, who dated Colton for more than three years, said that 'deep down' in her heart, she felt that being chaste or being sexually pure before marriage, was best for both of them.
"It wasn't because someone was telling me this is what you should do," she said. "Deep down in my heart it felt like it was the right thing. And we're really glad we did. We know God's hand is on our marriage."
During his time as an American Idol finalist in 2012, Colton was proud to share his Christian faith.
In an interview with CBN News, the singer said that he looks up to other Christians who take a stand for their faith in Jesus. Unfortunately, these people who try to stand up for Christ get bashed by the public right away.
"People see Christians taking a stand in the secular world and they want to be the first to pounce. Take Tim Tebow," Dixon said.
One of his most memorable performances in American Idol was "Everything", which was originally sung by rock band Lifehouse.
Dixon's studio albums A Messenger and Anchor have topped Christian charts in the US.
