Christian mother forgives son's murderer: 'I forgive you, I don't have a drop of hate for you'

An Evangelical Christian mother has put her faith into practice by publicly declaring forgiveness and praying for the young man who murdered her son three years ago.

In 2012, Alisson Lima dos Santos killed Rafael da Silva, but authorities were only able to arrest him after a year. After the arrest, the suspect came face to face with his victim's mother Maria Nice, who unexpectedly forgave him for his crime, according to Aleteia.

Nice, an Evangelical Christian, was videotaped publicly proclaiming forgiveness for her son's murderer. In the footage, dos Santos could barely maintain eye contact with his victim's mother, the report details.

"Look at me. You are forgiven in Jesus' name. I am a Christian, and I am forgiving you, and I will keep praying, Alisson," said Nice. "... And you are going to discover that God that I serve ... I don't have a drop of hate for you, Alisson."

While Nice admitted that she is not brave enough to visit the young man in prison, she told him that she will be praying that he will serve God someday.

In the video, Nice also told dos Santos how she felt when she learned that her son was dead. She also remorsefully told him how she felt when she was unable to look into her son's eyes one last time before he passed away.

Towards the end of the video, the Christian mother starts praying for the young man and asks God to work in his life. She also prayed for his mother because she knows that she must also be suffering because of what her child had done.

"Touch his soul, just as you touched mine," said Nice. "Comfort his mother, because she must be suffering as much as I am."

Earlier this year in February, Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams also publicly declared forgiveness for the person responsible for his wife's death in a car accident.

During Williams' speech at his wife's memorial service, he explained that his faith had helped him through his grieving process. He quoted Romans 8:28 and said he trusted that God would just make things work out in the end.
