Ken Ham calls for 'new reformation,' says many Christians have strayed away from Gospel
In 1517, Protestant Reformation, in which Martin Luther nailed 95 theses or complaints about the church's doctrines that have no biblical bases to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany, took place. Today, there is again a pressing need for a new reformation, says prominent Young Earth creationist Ken Ham.
In a blog post in Answers in Genesis, Ham noted that many Christians have turned to man's word as authority, instead of the God's Word, and this is seen in how many churches today have gone against the teachings of the Bible by accepting gay marriages, abortion, and premarital sex, among other acts that the Scripture deem as sinful.
In a separate post back in October, Ham cited results from a September 2016 study, conducted by Ligonier Ministries and Lifeway Research on the state of U.S. churches, in stressing his point that today's generation of churches has abandoned many biblical principles.
According to survey results, only 52 percent of evangelicals strongly agree that "sex outside of traditional marriage is a sin," while only 48 percent agreed that "abortion is a sin."
Ham shared that his organization Answers in Genesis aims to ignite the "new reformation," and listed five ways to do this.
First is to help young people develop a passion for the Bible and to "stand boldly, uncompromisingly, and unashamedly on the Word of God from the very first verse."
A second way, according to Ham, is to call on Christians to "contend earnestly for the faith," citing Jude 3, by standing by the authority of God's word in slamming "false teachings of our day."
Christian leaders should also teach Creationism to young people, according to Ham, and discourage belief in evolution and in the Earth being millions of years old.
The fourth way, Ham penned, is to find answers to questions that led them to abandon the Gospel, stressing that in such way, they will "discover the truths of the Bible and be saved for eternity by receiving Christ as Savior."
Last on Ham's list is to enlist parents in educating their children in accordance with biblical principles so that the young ones will be able to "defend the Christian faith against the secular attacks of our day."
